The OpenBSD project has just released version 5.9 of its security focused operating system. This is the project’s 40th release.
A quick review of the new features that can be found in OpenBSD 5.9:
- W^X policy enforced in the i386 kernel address space
- Xen domU support (you can now run OpenBSD on Amazon Web Services)
- Better intel GPU support on Bay Trail and Broadwell processors
- Pledge support for hundred of system binaries
- Better networking performance (SMP network stack improvements)
- Initial IEEE 802.11n wireless support
- New etherip(4) device for tunneling Ethernet frames across IP networks
- New pair(4) device for creating paired virtual Ethernet interfaces
- New tap(4) device providing a layer 3 interface with userland tools
- GPT partitions support
- New eigrpd routing daemon for the Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol
- Chacha20-Poly1305 implemented in the IPsec stack for the ESP protocol
